Techy question. The new toy ('97 S300 TD) has, as far as I can tell, the 722.6 transmission AKA 5G-tronic. Now, I used to have a 2002 E class which also, AFAIK, had the 722.6 and prior to that I had a W126 420SE which had the 722.4 and on both those other cars, it had the rather cunning feature of an anti-rollback device which stopped the car from going backwards when in forward gear on a hill. OK, it was a bit of an act of faith to trust that it would work, but work it did.
On this W140, it either doesn't have that feature, or it doesn't work. If it's not supposed to be there, well, so be it. However, if it's supposed to work and doesn't, that's a challenge.
Can anyone shed any light?
