Hi - I am in Cheltenham and looking for a place nearby that might be able to help. My wife was driving today and the bonnet flew up and bent. I think it's also bent the hinges as the bonnet is all misaligned and won't close. The bonnet is bent beyond repair so I'm going to need to locate a bonnet in the right colour and get a decent bodyshop/mercedes specialist to get it all to line up by bending the hinges or replacing them. Bloody nightmare. At least she was only moving slowly and she is alright. Luckily there is no damage elsewhere other than where the edges of the bonnet caught the engine bay and bent themselves back.
HELP....!

Hi there, sorry to hear that, happened to me about 15 yrs ago with a w123 that went right up and smashed the screen. Nightmare (i was tinkering, called away, when returned forgot bonnet wasnt latched, my fault).
Try Carl Burgess, top 140 spares guy -

Mercedes Benz W140 S Class Spares and Parts

Bad news, I wonder how that happened? You were only travelling at 25mph and those bonnets are very heavy.

c£300 LINK for a new one + paint.

Breakers would be your best bet, a least a dozen advertising W140's in eBay - you might even get lucky with the colour :)

Q.

Nicks got one , and in the colour you want.

Hi - sorry, don't know who Nick is! Where is he?
Thanks for finding the link.

OK - pm received with his contacts - thanks

If you have no luck with the names so far posted it would be worth trying Kevin James of Stuttgart Garage Pontypridd tel 01443 401838, he is usually breaking 1 or 2 W140s and will be able to help with the hinge problem. He's worth a call.

is the nummber corect??? i try to call no chance!

Wow - finally have my s500 back with a 'new' bonnet and hinges (£80) courtesy of Carl at the W140 breakers down in Kent. Had to get a haulage company to transport it (£115) as no couriers I contacted were interested. Found a MB approved body shop in Cheltenham from a MB enthusiast/mechanic nearby and for £200 all in they resprayed and fitted it including all the ancilliary bits (badge, hinges etc). So, although the total worked out at £400, it could have been a lot worse, like a write-off had the bonnet smashed the screen and roof.
I'll be back there and would recommend them - BP Motor Body Builders, Cheltenham.
