w140 gearbox oil

Hi to you all,

How do i check the oil level on the autobox on my s280 ( w140 i think )
Do i need to have the enginse running?

The dipstick tube is usually at the back of the engine where it joins the gearbox on the drivers side and has a tamperproof top which you have to break the seal on to open it. You may also find that there is no dipstick fitted which means that you either have to buy one or take it to your dealer to check it. The level needs to be checked at running temperature, the temperature levels are usually marked on the stick but you check the level with the engine off.
