I've been searching online without much luck.

I have a really nice 1997 S600 W140 with the original 16" 8-hole alloys. I need to have these wheels refurbed but done so correctly.

I understand that for the S600 model, the wheels were polished (not painted or diamond cut). Can anyone confirm this for me?

I'm also worried that if I take it to be done that they'd get carried away and give me back a mirror-like finish which is surely not right? Is there any specification for the level of polishing that I can supply the shop with?Wheel.jpg

They appear to have a painted finish.
Just get a bright silver powdercoat done and they will look like new.
BJV Engineering in Flaunden isn’t far from you, they are very good. I’ve had 2 sets done there.

I’ve seen the mirror polished version (usually in the USA, not a fan of it, too shouty)

Have you tried Lepsons in Gillingham? Used by dealerships for accurate refurbs.
