On my recently purchased W140 , I've been rebuilding the braking system .
Since the road past my house has recently closed , due to a bypass being created , I thought I'd take it out for a short test drive ( zero other traffic , apart form my neighbours , who are also car enthusiasts ) .
Anyway , my wipers , which operate on all three speeds , but continuously , don't seem to have an intermittent function . They run at normal speed on both intermittent and normal setting , and do speed up on the fast setting . I thought at first it might be because the car was just parked own my drive , but since I now have half a mile of closed road ( even though , for present , I only have front brakes plus emergency brake , I thought I'd try a short excursion ) ... I still don't have intermittent wipe , nor speed sensitive wipe ( stop when coming to a halt , as I do with my R129 ) .
Have replaced rotten brake pipes from front to back , flexible hoses , callipers , shoes , discs , pads at back ( when I picked car up ( little did I know ) I must have only front brakes plus parking brake - hence spongy pedal ...
I also bought front discs , pads , flexible hoses , and can make up pipes as required . But want to get back brakes fixed before I mess with still working front ones . Nonetheless ALL brakes will be overhauled before car is presented for MOT .
Also noted - headlamp wash/wipe doesn't work either - could be a related fault ? No fuses blown .I'm guessing maybe relay ? ABS seems fine : warning light comes on before starting , then goes out , doesn't come back on , though due to limited ( half mile ) road space , and limited brakes , haven't been above 30 or so .
Everything else seems tickety-boo .
Also fitting correct ORIS towbar , have electrics to sort out .
Car is lovely , straight six is creamy smooth , just wonderful . Week and a half till christmas hols , plan to have it on road for New year .
Does anyone have ideas re Headlamp wash/wipe , intermittent wipe functions . I suspect the two faults will be related .
Looking forward to getting this back on the road .
