My newly-acquired ML500 runs well when driving and starts easily, but the idle is lumpy and the CEL is on. I read the codes using the Carsoft MB II in 'Benz' mode, and got three "EML on; this fault can be deleted and ignored" messages. So I deleted them. The EML went off, but it came back on almost immediately when the engine was started.
I repeated the test in basic "OBD" mode, and got code P101 - Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem.
It looks as though the MAF is causing the CEL. It's very easily accessible, so I'll start by giving it a good blast with some contact cleaner, but what I don't understand is why I didn't get any indication of a MAF fault with the MB-specific diagnostics. Does anybody have any idea why?
