W163 Rust under rear tailgate handle

Hello all,

I have a small spot of rust creeping through on the rear tailgate. It's right beneath the MLs tailgate handle - approx the size of an old 50p piece.

What the best method to treat this and leave a decent finish?

How long have you owned the car, when is it (was it) eight years old, and does it have full main dealer service history?

If it does then MB may well pick up the bill - it's a well known weak spot on W163 MLs and R170 SLKs.
