Hi all, got the diagnostic done at an independent specialist today. Really nice and friendly chaps at Smercs Portsmouth.

They advised me to buy a second hand AAM module (with or without the fusebox, and a new foot well fuse panel and take it from there. I mean I can, but I doubt some of these errors are related to the AAM.. or am I wrong?

Right, some of the errors because the printer was broken and I snapped some photos with my phone of the output on display.

ALSO, the car showed a START ERROR on the dash for the first time to the mechanic. This was with the second key which I am using as the first key seems to get stuck in the barrel.

Most of these errors were stored, so not sure when they actually happened. I was told not to worry too much about them and get a replacement AAM module from ebay as they don't need reprogramming and are a direct swap. Is this true?

I can't comment, save to say that not many of us use Smercs.

I know nothing about them - but many of us use Prestige in Horndean and are delighted with Ollie & his team.

Good luck.

Hello

I have been informed about Prestige in Horndean, but you see the major problem with the car is that it dies whilst you drive it unexpectedly with no warning about 30 -40 minutes after you start driving. I really cannot risk having the car dying on a motorway on my way to Horndean. I hope you understand.

30-40 what? Miles, minutes ?

Google Maps say Prestige are 12.4 miles, or 17 minutes from Hampshire Terrace in Southsea, at this busy time (17:50).

Good luck.

Hello, minutes, I corrected the above post and it takes me 20 minutes to get from city center where I work to my house at PO3 .... I think this a big risk to take. Nonetheless, I will consider it more.

Thank you

Based on your description of what it’s doing, I’d be inclined to change the camshaft and crankshaft sensors first. Does it always start ok from cold? When it cuts out will restart after it’s left to cool down?

It almost always starts fine from cold. Today was the first time the "START ERROR" showed up on the little dash display. The cam sensor has already been changed. So has the fuel filter. I was also advised to change the fuel lines from the filter to the pump as they may let air in. I brought the crankshaft sensor with to the shop and asked for it to be changed, but it wasn't I presume because the AAM module failed to communicate with the diagnostic scanner. I was told the AAM module is essential to running the engine and hence I should start from there.

How old is your battery ?
Hi,
Previous owner said the battery was changed last year but has been drained flat a few times since, according to him always.
I know these cars are sensitive to their battery, but would this be relevant at all in this case?

If you have a crank sensor already, fit it and see what happens. The start error message can appear if the battery is a little below par. Often turning the key off for a few seconds and back on again is enough to clear it. I don’t think the AAM is necessarily the problem. I’ve seen them working but non communitative to star before. Yes, replacement is a good idea, but it won’t definitely be causing issues

That makes sense.

Update:

Just managed to fit the new crankshaft sensor. Will update on the whole dying while you driving it issue.
