Hi to all i have a GLE 250 sport suv and recently had a tow bar fitted. 2016 model. When complete I asked the fitter if he had recoded as agreed with quote he then told me that my model could not turn off rear fog light or rear reverse sensors
do any of you know this is true. Thanks

The car is capable of it, I know because mine can. I suspect it’s to do with the way it’s been wired by the fitter. If you use the correct wiring kit then it can do exactly as you describe.

Thanks for your reply. This is what I suspected I paid fo dedicated electrics and asked before booking if he could code everything and he said yes. I now feel I have been conned.

Doesn’t sound good. Which dedicated electrics kit did he use, or say he would use, do you know?

Hi sorry for delay. Not sure of make although it was delivered by PF Jones the tow bar fitting company . The company that fitted mine was Perfect Tow from Derbyshire.

Could this model perhaps need Xentry at Mercedes to code correctly?

If it has the dedicated electrics then it should be be possible to code it.

Your Mercedes main dealer may be reluctant to do it if it’s not supplied/fitted by them but it’s definitely worth trying. If not then a Mercedes specialist or another towbar fitter may be prepared to do it for you.

PF Jones just fitted a Brink Detachable to my GLE 350 with a dedicated wiring kit and it works perfectly. They are a great bunch of guys it may be worth and cheaper to take it to them to re-code.

Just a reply to this old thread
Deployable factory tow hitch is easy fitted with a used hitch and new harness.
Plug and play, no idea why you would go aftermarket.
