Hi,

I have a 2000 Mercedes A140 Manual Classic, and whenever I steer the steering wheel, there's a very slight play with a clicking noise that sounds like it's coming from the connection between the steering wheel and steering components. It's just clicks once during the first cm of steering.

The dealer said this was normal with most A classes, and I read online that I should just get the UJ lubricated, however, most the garages I contacted said they do not do this.

Does anyone have any idea if this is what's causing this very slight play and click and what sort of garages would actually lubricate and how much I'm looking at?

Many thanks.

Koolvins link is correct-it could be lots of things but follow the website link and grease the simple areas suggested .If not the strut bearings will need to be replaced-at the same time check that the springs are not cracked broken! Its a weak point of the A class.(aclassinfo.co.uk)

Franey is doing the strut bearing replacement kits cheap at the mo.
