W168 fuel gauge

Hi

The fuel gauge on the W168 A-Class has lately gone a bit “intermittent”.....
Sometimes ok, sometimes reads very low, sometimes will twitch then not really appear.

Is it more likely to be the sender rather than gauge?
Is there an easy way to check?

Has anyone changed a sender - believe it’s part of the pump (just to make it more ££)

Is it a tank out job ....or can it be accessed from cabin?

I had this problem in my older generation C-Class. Try filling up the tank at Texaco. The additive they use seems to be good a removing any gumming up in the fuel tank sensor.

You would need to lower the tank in order to access the sender.
You could whip off the instrument cluster and check the instrument binacle, it's a doddle to remove.
For more advise on all things w168 i used to swear by Loftys page...
