First post and it's a strange one.

My wife bought a 06 A class automatic a few months ago and is loving it. Few teething problem but otherwise it's all good.

Today when driving off I get a panicked phone call saying the accelerator has disappeared, turns out it folds up and so does the clutch (no idea why there's a clutch in an automatic).

I can't find any reference to the pedals in the manual. Is there a way to stop this happening or should I just try to replace it with a non moving one?

If this is in the wrong area please move it to the correct one.

Thanks for the replies. You could be right. Unfortunately we didn't get any paperwork with the car (except for the v5) so we have no idea about any work done before we got it.

I think I'll see if I can replace the accelerator with a non folding one.

Somewhat unrelated, but hopefully useful: the 169/245 CVT* is a delicate creature, so it is important to remember never to shift it into gear, until the revs drop below 1000rpm - particularly during winter / colder times. Personally, I wait a minute or so until it goes down to 820-850rpm.

* CVT - continuously variable transmission.

Thanks that's good to know.
My wife leaves it auto all the time but I did try out the semi automatic mode just to see what it was like.

Perhaps I should clarify - I meant don't shift from P to R or D, when you start it cold - ATF needs to warm up a bit so not to damage the transmission.
FWIW, I only used the manual shift once in over four years of ownership (it was a very steep and long downhill).

Thanks for the clarification. It will come in handy for the coming months.
