W169 Boot cover

Just wondering if anyone knows how the boot cover works on a W169 A150 - I have the boot cover pictured above which came with the car but I've never actually figured out how it's meant to work. It has rails inside the boot which I guess are supposed to lock it in place when pulled across and little plastic bits on the boot cover itself but neither seem to line up. We can pull it out and make it overhang like in the picture but with nothing there to hold it the minute you shut the boot it just springs back and uncovers. I'm thinking surely there must be something I'm missing.

There are pins either side which slot into the groove and lock against the stop end on the top "U" of the groove.The pins stick out either side of the square plastic piece in your photo ,
