A warning to other W169 owners.

We do relatively low mileage on our A180CDi (4,500 pa). It's coming up for its two year service. Last year we had the A service, and fully expected to book it in for the B service next month.

A couple of weeks ago, however, the dashboard warned that a C service would required in 13,000 miles time. In the past few days that has miraculously changed to C service required in 30 days.

The fixed price for the B service in Birmingham is £259 - but the C service moves this on to £380, for a new filter and fluids I am told. This is required for cars reaching 15,000 miles or two years, whichever comes first.

It's because ASSYST calculates service intervals on a mileage and time basis so that if the car does high miles it will get the appropriate service and same for ones that do low mileages.

Go speak to your dealer and find out exactly what it needs. The letter (A,B,C etc) normally relates to how long the service should take, in hours, when carried out at an MB garage. Not so much when serviced at an Indie.

Use this link which will tell you what your car requires - Mercedes-Benz ESS

Good luck!
