Hi all,

When driving on a motorway, and the road dips and rises again...the bottom of my car seems to scrape the bottom every time, almost feel like im in a bouncy car...this dosent happen at low speeds such as 50 60 miles p/h but can happen when driving 70mph plus...

Just wondering whether its something to do with the suspension or does something need to be lifted from the bottom of the car so its tighter??

Almost feels like when the road dips, the car bounces, hits the bottom and makes a bad scraping sound...

Any suggestions??

Thank you

Rizzy ,This is the only Mercedes Benz that you should see regularly scraping the ground . I would suggest you have your suspension checked ASAP , it does not sound safe to drive from your description.

Lol 😆

It only scrapes the flaps from the bottom of the car, and only happens when on driving on uneven motorway, its not a constant scrape..other than that it dosent happen when going over a speed-bump...

How would the garage test the suspension?

I had a Vauxhall Omega estate (one of 3 over the years) When being driven in a 'spirited manner' ...(In a CDX 2.2 Diesel 'spirited ' is a relative term ) along twisty roads the front (solid plastic) mud flaps would scrape on the road in the bends. :p.

It was brand new at the time .

is the car bought new or second hand?
Its been involved in an accident...a front end damaged one

Its defo not the mud flaps as one of the tyres dosent even have a mud flap..thats where the noise is coming out from..

I think its a component under thr car that keeps knocking something when trying to break or accelerate when moving off...

Cud it be the bushes as i read something it cud be or the engine mount?

This sounds like your dampers (i.e. shock absorbers) are goosed. Not to be confused with springs.

P.S. I am presuming you have standard springs fitted, and have not lowered the ride height?

I thort that as well tbh..and yes i have standard springs fitted with no alterations done with th4 vehicle..

Wud a standard mechanic be able to tell if shock abosrbers are wearing??

Internet forums are a great place to share information and stories but they’re never as good as a specialist looking at a car.

Look up your local suspension specialists, not general garages. Call them up and drop in. They’ll soon see what’s scraping or moving too much. Especially in a situation where your car has had damage and repair.

Internet chat is good but without seeing the car, there are limits on how a problem can be diagnosed.
