Hello to everyone from Croatia!
I have W201 190E 1.8 from 1993., last year of its production. Engine version is without lambda sensor and CAT, so somewhere I got information it's EZL-ECE version, if I'm not wrong. So what's the problem? According to the manufacturer info max speed for car is at least 185 km/h, but I can't get more than 150-160 km/h. I'm driving on the flat highway, gas pedal is hit to the ground, but RPM is stuck at cca 4500 rpm/min and speed needle at 150 km/h. That's even happening when I'm alone in the car and without luggage. If I go down the hill sometimes it can hit 160 km/h. There is no stalling or something like that, but there are some 'shakes' during acceleration, but only if I press gas pedal slightly. If I hit it to the ground there are no such shakes.
I'm chasing this problem for a pretty long time and replaced many things on car:
1. new fuel filter
2. new fuel filter on the entry in K-Jet unit
3. new Bosch air flow potentiometer
4. new Bosch injectors
5. new spark plugs
6. new air filter
I was assuming that problem is somewhere in fuel distribution so I was going on that line. Also checked:
1. fuel pressure OK
2. fuel pump flow OK
3. engine compression OK
4. cap and rotor looking OK
5. test with vacuum leak spray OK
This engine is starting up great no matter cold or hot. What else to mention? It's running a little bit rough while idling, I think that at least one of engine mounts is bad, but RPM while idling are solid and without going up or down. It's just feeling like it doesn't have power to hit more than cca 4500 RPM while driving on highway, but why? Is it possible that this type of CIS-E has some kind of RPM/speed 'limit' which is controlled by ECU?
So I appreciate advices, especially if someone has or had problem like that. I know that this engine is not for racing, but sometimes when I need it's full power on highway I want to know that I can expect it's maximum. And I'm pretty sure that 150-160 km/h isn't maximum for that car.
