Hi Guys,

The glow plug light on my 190D didn't come on yesterday. The car started a bit rough and then the pre glow light was illuminated for about a minute after it started. I guess this means that one or more glow plugs are on the way out.

I was after the part number for the glow plugs and the glow plug relay. I thought it prudent to get the lot done while I am at it. I've tried to access the Russian parts website and it has been down for a few days. Anyone else having problems accessing it?

The other option would be to get Bosch ones. I guess they would probably be as good as the genuine MB parts. Do Bosch make glow plug relays as well?

Where would be the best place to get them from?

Cheers,

Blondebier

you should not normally need to replace the relay. Most likely one of the glow plugs has failed. Best to change them all whilst you are there. Buy genuine MB made by Beru or Bosch - avoid anything else including NGK. Be careful and very patient getting the old plugs out or they will snap off in the head.

Thanks Smiley.

I'm thinking of getting Bosch Duraterm. They seem to have pretty good reviews.

After all that, I really struggled to find anyone with Bosch Duraterm in stock.

I ordered some Beru ones from ECP in the end.

Hopefully they'll be as good as the OE ones.

I'm on beru ones in my E300D at the moment

How long do you find they last SilverSaloon?

The last set that were installed by the previous owner were made by Denso. (I'd never heard of them before) They appear to have lasted about 2 years.

I didn't think that was very good. :dk:

What's the life expectancy of a glow plug these days?

I have had glow plugs last 10,000 miles, and on a citroen I had the original set lasted 120,000 miles before I had to replace them, so I guess it's luck of the draw really.

It sounds like it!

In case anyone wants the Beru part number for these it's GN858. They're also suitable for some W124 diesels too.

I got them from ECP for £7.80+VAT

You can get them cheaper elsewhere, but I didn't know the part number at the time.
