Yeah, I know, I really ought to get a Haynes manual...

How do I remove/replace the colour coded shell and surround?
I want to switch the shells on two mirrors, preferably without breaking any of the clips.

Cheers for any help. :)

The clips just prise apart carefully. You might find it easier if you remove the rubber cover at the ends to ease access :)

I can't remember for sure, but I'm 90% sure the casing unclips from the surround first.

You'll work it out easily enough :)

Thanks Will.
Which bit comes off first? The back or the surround?

Take the outer surround off first, and then the the back unclips.

When you go to put it back on, fit the surround into the back, and clip it on as one unit.

Here's a couple of pictures what to expect.

Thanks grober.
I found the pieces of one of my old ones on the floor next to my car after it got hit but the back was in a few pieces, so it wasn't as obvious as that shot makes it.

So it looks like the ends of the surround kind of go outwards and over the back cover...
I'll try and have a go at it today after I get my new rims on.

Cheers again, all. :)

Buggered if I can shift it. :(

The surround doesn't seem to want to budge at all.
I've managed to disengage one clip on the back but that's it.

Further advice on how to get it started would be much appreciated.

[edit] My new rims however are awesome - cured my wheel wobble at ~70mph+ and stopped it pulling to the left too (which I was led to believe was normal for W201s).

Start in a corner and with a screwdriver lift the edge of the surround, once it starts to come off it just peels off.

Then you can unclip the cover.
