I need a couple of electric window motors, not the mechanical bits just the motors, for my W201. Anyone know if these parts are shared with the W124? And are they handed?

Not sure about the motors , but the regulators are certainly 'handed' . The W201 certainly uses a similar wire-driven mechanism in the rear doors , but the front regulators are different I'm pretty sure . I certainly still have a drivers door regulator from my written off 124 in my shed , I can't remember if I still have a motor but will take a look .

Sports Car Breakers out at Newbridge often have W201 and W124 models in - last time I was out there about a year ago they had about a dozen W201's in and a few 124's - they may have things like motors 'on the shelf' . There also used to be a good yard out at 'The Camps' in East Calder , haven't been there for years . There are always plenty of 201's in the yards over here in the west , so Edinburgh should be no different .

Edit - BTW , there was a 2.6 in a yard in Paisley a few months back , I got a few bits off it for mine .

i'm sure there was a pretty complete 201 when I there last week at SCB.

Thanks for that to you both. Unfortunately, I'm mostly around the Bolton area these days and so the Scottish breakers are too hard for me to get to.

I just want to be sure of what it is I'm looking for though. If, say, I want an OS rear motor I wondered if I needed to be so specific when maybe any motor for any W201 or even W124 would do. It'd save me a lot of trawing about if this is the case.

If it's the Bolton in Lancashire - you've got Boss Parts in Leeds ( specialist Mercedes Breakers Tel 0113 281 3672

If the Bolton in N Yorks - there's Dave Collins in Brighouse 07710 672 986

Also Dronsfields in Oldham 01457 871 717

Hope that's of some help

Ford Granada (85 to 94 ) window motors will work on 124 front doors , just need to remove the plug from the ford motor and crimp on 5mm eye connectors

Rob, if you still have the existing motors it is possible to take them apart and clean them, the likely result is that the will work again.
