w202 250TD gearbox not shifting?

Hi there!

I've just bought a '96 C250TD w202 with a broken diff.. I changed that, and i though everything was well - Wrong!

I have some box problems.. When shift it in D, and drive away, it accelerates to the first shift marker in the speedo, and then it tops at 4500 rpm. and that it.. I tried to shift down i 3-2, but no luck here either..

I'm not sure whitch gearbox mines fitted with (got to be the 722.6)..

Checked the oil, and the level seems to be okay..

Any ideas, before i let a Danish garage rip me off?

Did you buy privately?

It does sound like you need to find a MB gearbox specialist. Assume you've had it on a star to see what that says?

Yes i did, and no, all shops closes waay to early on fridayd, so its gotta wait to Monday..


Im just hoping some merc rain man comes by and know whats up with the box;-)

So I asked around because I have just bought a C250D and may one day have the same issue. My buddy says this.

His guess is the gearbox is a 722.4 and the fault is the governor drive gear has stripped, so the governor never allows ATF through to select the next gear up. He says its a cheap and easy fix.

Don't lt the garage blag you its something else.
