HELP !! PLEASE
My w202 c180 sport "WONT START"
Car has been in several garages and they are coming up with blank ?(or don't know). my car started with no problems but when I went back to caR it would only crank but not fire up. One garage says that diagnostic can only find air bags and nothing else is registering or communicating with reader ???
Another garage says immobiliser showing fault ?
They have told me to possibly scrap car as it could open up money pit trying to fix it.
I am a little reluctant to just scrap it, Ive had car 18 years, its only done 7400 miles and has never caused me a problem before.
Any suggestions or advise on possible next course of action.

Regards
Huddy

Hi,
You should have red & green lights in the rear view mirror, do these still work?
Does the remote locking still functioning?
Have you tried changing the key fob batteries?
Tried using the spare key?

A 1995 W202 C180 will use a PMS ignition control module, located under the washer reservoir bottle.

Quite possible yours is kaput.

One way to check is to look for a spark at the spark plug end of each ignition lead, being careful to not zap yourself.

Have a read here, same thing but for a slightly different engine - http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/124684-w124-e200-no-ignition-cylinders-1-4-a.html

I have nearly all of these available, good, tested used units. Where are you based? If reasonably close I could test yours & plug in a known good unit to see if it fixes the problem.

Are you in possession of any of the remotes / keys in the centre of the picture below?

As you have the round key then you should have a key switch like below.
It should disable the security and allow you to start the car, that is, if it’s an immobiliser fault that’s stopping the car starting?

The key should turn a quarter turn, counter clockwise, this will probably disable the central locking as well.

The key switch may be located in the glove box or under the steering collum, above drivers knees, or it could be somewhere else convenient reach for the driver, it could also be on the back of alarm siren and concealed behind a weather protective cap.

You're about 200 miles N. of me.

You can check for spark by sticking an old spark plug in the end of each lead, cranking the engine for a couple of seconds & just looking for the spark. If the PMS unit has failed there will be no spark in (at least) 2 of the 4 leads.

Did you get to the bottom of this?
