C180
I have owned a 1998 C180 for 2 years with no problems. Last week sitting in car park with aircon on for 10 mins, car cut out. Eventually started after 15 mins. Today wouldn’t start. Left for half hour then started. Tried to do a diagnostic with tester but had linking error. Only done 4000 miles since last service. Any advice would be appreciated

Possible crankshaft/ Camshaft sensor. Hard to tell without any codes.
Thanks for reply. I have a local independent merc specialist who will have a look next week. Otherwise I might keep changing parts without solving problem.

It was the crankshaft sensor. Replaced for £130. Since work was done, now has a misfire when putting foot down

Could be totally unrelated and just be a duff coil or plug?
But I would be looking for maybe disturbed connectors or wiring first!!

But let the Indie check it out first.

Thank you. I will have a look first. I was thinking maybe coil pack but it was fine before work was done

The sitting in the car park for 10minutes with the aircon on [ and presumably the engine?] sounds like a recipe for elevated underbonnet temperatures which may have just delivered a coup de grace to some other electrical wiring components- I would suspect as mentioned the coilpacks/leads / extenders. These things often work for years untill disturbed during fault finding/repairs. Its worthwhile pursuing this- ignoring it eventually can knock out the ECU ignition transistors

I’ve changed the spark plugs this morning. Misfire problem solved. Thanks for help
