I've mentioned this before, but now I have more clear idea of whats happening, any comments welcome:
From cold, if car left in D while stationary for few miutes, drive to wheels slowly becomes less and less until when I put my foot down to set off the g/box slips like mad. When warmed up the changes are all faultless.
BUT: From cold, if car left in N until last minute (like when lights change to green) and then put in D and I put my foot down straight away - no problem.
So while the box is in D and stationary there is a steady loss of pressure in the feed to the actuator(s) that operate the brake bands/clutches in the planetary gear sets.
Why? Cold box = changed tollerances perhaps leading to leaking fluid. Cold = stiffer leakier rubber sealing rings. What else??????????????
Its the steady decline in drive torque whilst stationary that is foxing. So if anyone else has some ideas then please let me know.
I am on a tight budget and so don't want to go down the "change fluid just to see if it helps" route as the car isn't worth much anyway. What I really want to know is, is it possible the thing will last, or is it a gonner?
Thnaks
