Hi hoping you can help! I have a a 1999 C240 and have discoevered an intermittent fault with the indicators.

The indicators come on by themselves without using the indicator stalk. When the stalk is used to try to cancel the indicators, for example if left indicator is on, try to indicate Right and it stays on. Sometimes it flashes between the two, couple of flashes left, then couple of flashes right. Tried putting hazards on for a while – no use, tried wiggling the stalk – again, no use.

At the momment I have had to take the fuses out to drive the car (although this also knocks out the wiper!)

Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing this?

I would take a look at the relay first; this played up on my w124 and it caused a number of faults. try taking the relay out and replacing; or even better try wiggling it around in its connection whilst the fault is happening; see if it makes a difference.
if it does fix it when you move it around then you will need a new relay.
If not then the stalk assy itself.

It will be the combination switch (wiper stalk) that is your problem.

Thanks for the advice guys - will try the relay first and then look at the stalk assembly.

Thanks again...

its the stalk... we have replaced a few.

Thanks for the advice - any ideas what I am looking at cost wise for the indicator stalk replacing?

does it light up your rear demister by any chance? The button in the middle of the blower dials on the centre console
