Greetings to all,

I've been reading all the MAF related threads here and on other Forums and have deduced that the MAF on my C240 is on the blink:

Sudden loss of Power twice in 2 days, cleared by ignition off and back on. Gradual loss of performance with intermittent days when the car feels really quick.
Erratic autobox shifts - again, some days really smooth and others hard shifting - Have had the level checked and its fine. (Steve from Mercare suggested the hard shifting could be the valve unit in the bottom of the gearbox but that wasn't a diagnosis - at £600 I think I will exhaust the other options first - plus it doesn't tally with the loss of power)

I removed the sensor and found it encrusted with dirt particles and cleaning it with a soft brush hasn't made a difference. I checked the airfilter and found the box full of dead wasps, sand grains etc - despite the car being 'serviced' before I collected it. This I believe is the probably cause along with the age - 98,000 miles and nearly 10 years old.

I'm going to try the car in a bit with the sensor disconnected but I'm pretty certain its the MAF.

So my question is this - sourcing a replacement?

The Part is a bosch PBT-GF30 F00C 2G2 025

I contacted airmassmeters.com and they were unable to identify the part from the number given which I find a little odd but they have suggested a Pierburg replacement for £97.40

GSF have two listed at £62 or £192.60 (plus VAT)

and Eurocarparts.com have a bosch unit complete for £103.49

I'm inclined to go for the Bosch unit from Euro Parts plus a new air filter but it seems cheap from what I've been reading.

Any suggestions, recommendations etc would be appreciated

Thanks

Nick

I bought a new MAF from GSF as I couldn't wait the next day delivery from ECP (cos I'm a plank) however did get them down to £145 instead of £192! :)

ECP are cheaper and aslong as it's a genuine bosch then should be fine, check it is the correct one as there are as couple with varying prices, mine turned out to be the dearer of the lot! :D Made one heck of a difference though, well worth it.

Fitted the Bosch one from ECP (got them down to £99 - do ask if they can do a better price) in Jan (mileage about 125K at the time, now 135K).

Try with MAF disconnected - if things are smooth again then it's the MAF.

Well, Just been for a drive with the MAF disconnected and yes, much smoother - as expected.
Oddly the Electric Fan came on and stayed on all the time - it is 24 deg out there so may be co-incidence.
I'll order the Bosch unit from ECP and change the air filter - should be good to go.

Cheers

Nick

New MAF and Air Filter arrived yesterday, free next day from ECP - good service!

10 minute job to fix.

Car is running much smoother and the engine feels 'meaty' again :-)

A couple of things though, on my way back from work the GB was hard shifting 1st - 2nd and the cruise didn't work. Then, after a quick stop, all was smooth again and cruise/limit back to normal.

Could this be a speed sensor of sorts? If you activate LIMIT it comes up with ---- and beeps, indicating perhaps it can't determine the vehicles speed. I wondered if this was related to the gearbox shifting.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Could be a wheel sensor, 1 of mine failed Bas light on replaced by Indy about 6 months later another went so I replaced the rest, cruise and limit stoped working and after a couple of weeks stuck in second gear.
I also had 1 or 2 hard shifts fault codes read comunication error after clearing it was fine, my cars a 98 C240 131k.
I got a STAR + Carsoft 7.4 with multiplexor from Ebay and has saved the purchase cost already.
Hope this is of help
Ron

Dont you have to set the limit speed first if you get a message " -----" ??

Thanks, I'll have a look at the wheel sensor connections next time I have the wheels off.

The gearbox has settled down now after about 150 miles so I'm happy :-)
