Currently calculating a 'repair or break' on my friends 1994 W202 C280 straight six auto, which was bought as a project...but now might not be worth the repair.

Currently just getting quotes for the following items:-

'decent' engine loom for a C280 straight six auto (this one has gone totally, and someone has already wrapped the wires in tape)

N/S passenger electric window regulator & electric door switch

If anyone has these items available, could they give me an idea of cost please?

Thanks

Iain

I'm afraid the only loom available in the UK is from your MB dealer. You can save a bit of money doing the job yourself. http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/M104WireHarness I would be very wary of a second hand one since it may have the same problem but just hasnt developed. Taking it off a wrecked car may just have accelerated the process.

If the loom is that bad, then I would also suspect the main engine ECU.

The loom coil feeds normally short the respective coil out, so replacement is needed, BUT it can often blow the output drivers of the ECU. Merc price of the order of £1,000 or maybe a second hand unit which will need to be coded according to the options on your car eg. ASR, man or auto etc etc.

So, total project could be much more expensive than you anticipated.

I 'think' that may have already been changed, as there is a sticker on the ECU (cant remember the company) that isnt Mercedes.

The cost of the car, and its current resale value, does not warrant a loom direct from Mercedes unfortunately :( Will look into going the DIY route and replacing the wires myself....or calling in a favour from my sparkie friend.

Its a shame there arent any independents making looms out there

You could try the USA I vaguely recall a post on the mercedes shop forum detailing an after market company who now makes them. Might be worth doing a search??
