w202 Cruise Control Retro Fit?

hi can someone tell me can i do this mod to my 98 c250 td esprit manual.
thanks.

You need a Mercedes computer to code the fitment, so really not a DIY thing, but any competent MB inde could do it.

Great mod! Me think's someone gonna copy you :D

Tell me, how much was the labour charge to get the fitment coded... and fitted ? (or did you fit it yourself?)

(Basically, I'm trying to figure out the grand total cost; its either this or keep saving for a bike :P)

This mod was some time ago - I think the part was about £40 and my total bill about £150.

It seems that this old tread is up again.

It's really a nice mod, cheap also.

Please, since I'm wondering about, do you confirm that the modification require a competent Mercedes Dealer?

The part. number posted previously it's related to a RHD, but I'm quite sure it's same for a LHD as my manual one is?

I'd like to verify to my dealer with the right part number to ask them an offer for this.

Further, could you please explain me what does it means the "speed limit" feature?

Thanks a lot for any help. :)

It requires someone competant, with a STAR machine I believe.

The speed limit feature is an additional feature on some cruise control equipped Mercedes - you enable it, set the speed via the stalk and the display on your dash and you cannot exeed this speed unless you disable it or use kickdown.

This feature does not work on my car, but maybe that is a good thing as it' a manual gearbox.

Ok thanks a lot Graham. This mod. seems cheaper as retrofitting than as factory option :D

Have you seen if the stalk part comes with relevant cable connection?

My worries are about Mercedes Dealer...to find the right part number and STAR setting.

...since when I asked info about setting to "the Netherlands" in order to hear "CHIRP" closing the car, they said it's impossible, only at factory!...but I know someone have done it.

One tip - I have a stalk for Cruise which has the speed limiter controls - which do NOT work. However, there is a different part which is the cruise stalk WITHOUT the speed limiter bit - this would make a neater install.

thanks this is really a nice point out. :)

...any chance to have the right part number?

No, sorry.
I will try to look later :)

I wonder if it's a '202 part or from some other model.

Note to self: the item will be listed as being for vehicles +440 +428 and possibly -420 -423 -425.

It's from a 208 CLK ;)
It doesn't neccessarily follow that modified or updated items will also appear on the 208 first though :)

Great mod.

I have a question my SL and our A-Class has the speed limiter cruise control and I really miss it as I am currently driving our W140 S-class with only the basic cruise control.

How easy is it to upgrade the basic cruise to the speed limiter version of cruise control

Regards

Tan

Any news?

Thanks a lot Shude, I'll be at the Stealership in 1 hour, so if it is possible I'm wondering to bring me the part number you'll find out :)

Otherwise I'll be back on the forum only next monday.

What's "+440 +428 and possibly -420 -423 -425"?

I don't have the info yet, I only have access to the data at home, last night I forgot

440 is tempomat (cruise control)
428 is 5-speed manual transmission
420 is 4-speed auto with cruise
423 is 5-speed auto with cruise
425 is 5-speed auto without cruise.

You need to find the correct combination of options, the cruise stalk will differ depending on which options were fitted at the factory. The catalogue just has a brief description and a line drawing...

OK thanks so please I wait your info part number before visit to the dealer ;)

If you need mine is a manual so should be 428 code. If you need I can provide you other car data (i.e. boh! frame number,... I don't know).

I'm back as I can.

thanks again

Your stealership parts people could also work this out - they have more information than I do! :)

I've been convinced! I have saved up for my bike, and now I'm gonna start looking around to get this done! I had a look at my 202, and I'm guessing the steering column housing needs too be cut, am I right?

Secondly, your car is the facelift model, is there any significant (to this mod) difference to the pre-facelift?

Thanks, Michele
