w202 Cruise Control Retro Fit?

Spinal said:
I've been convinced! I have saved up for my bike, and now I'm gonna start looking around to get this done! I had a look at my 202, and I'm guessing the steering column housing needs too be cut, am I right?

Secondly, your car is the facelift model, is there any significant (to this mod) difference to the pre-facelift?

Thanks, Michele

Im thinking that yours will need some sort of actuator attached to the throttle housing to mechanically move the throttle cable,On the facelift car its all electronic.

Yeah, I am hoping, not to exlude anyone else but one of our more technical members, perhaps the likes of Dieselman, teky or Miro can help?

Since that post I have discovered that .......

W203, W209, W168, W169 can have speed limiter and cruise control fitted with just the steering column parts added. However, you need someone like Steve to do the work on the newest cars as there is a restriction on the amount of dealer coding that can be done ex-factory.

The expanded Star Diagnose functions that Steve has can activate the

- Cruise control function in the MOTOR CONTROL UNIT

- Tempomat (speed limiter) function in any car with a display cluster.

I think the parts are very reasonable and come to something like 40 GBP for most cars.

As for the W202 ... not sure. Its worth fitting the parts just for the heck of it.

One tip - I have a stalk for Cruise which has the speed limiter controls - which do NOT work. However, there is a different part which is the cruise stalk WITHOUT the speed limiter bit - this would make a neater install.

In all cars with "accelerate by wire" - (no actual pedal connection to engine) then the coding for speed limiter is entirely in the ECU (engine control unit) and in the instrument cluster.

You need TEMPOMAT activation in the cluster and TEMPOMAT + CC in the ECU. At the moment you seem to be reporting that you only have CC active.

There are 4 menu items in newer cars
--------------------------------------
- NOTHING
- Cruise control
- Cruise control with Speed limiter
- Distronic

The only difference between autos and manuals then is that the auto will shift gear in both cruise and limit but the manual will plod-on in whatever gear you select.

AARGHH! Up-dating for my 1998 manual W202.

Went yesterday to the Stealership. They said it's quite impossible/expensive to retrofit tempomat to manual W202! Because this is not indicated in the list of after market modification they showed me!! :( I said to better verify because already done with a few amount of work and money, I said I have seen photo of this from a nice MB English forum!

They showed me a schema with all the necessary components I need: cables, electronic brain units and the well known steering rod. I said that 99% all the components are already factory installed, I should need only the rod and some switch on the pedal may be.

So please my question is: does someone (Shude or GrahamC230K or both :) )know/show me the cable and el.components involved so I can look if they are present on my car? :)

I'll really appreciate any help from yourside.

Thanks a lot ;)

Cruise Control - retrofit

It is interesting to know that I'm not the only one who is keen to retrofit a cruise control. I have done many searching for the parts needed for my 190E. Does someone have experience with fitting one on the 190E?

Hello everybody

Re-activating the thread again.

After reading all the posts I really want to go forward with my cruise control installation in my C200 CDI (W202) year 2000. I brought the car from Germany three years ago (LHD) and I really miss this option.

My car has BAS, ESP,ABS,electronic throttle and manual transmission.

It is suppose just the stalk to get CC in my car? As mine is an electronic throttle equipped will I need to fit just the stalk? Thanks in advance

This I like the sound of- one of my pet peeves is that I don't have this- having got it on my E30, so... How do I tell if my car has the electronic throttle then?

This I like the sound ofQUOTE]

This sounds like a plan !

I have a C200 sport (manual) 1998 facelift model so all I need is A2085450424 and some Star coding?
Is the cruse control deactivated by the brake.

Just an ickle *prod* on this-

How do I tell if my car is one of the "Plu Programme & Play" ones?
:dk:

I have a C 180 elegance Auto - March 1996

I've got one of those printouts off the VIN that says things like:

"Options
"056 W202 aej. 96/1 (с 09.12.1995 по 21.09.1997)
"341 additional lamp (с 01.09.1982)
"412 electric sliding roof with tilting device (с 01.07.1983)"

but that doesn't help (or does it?)

Anyway- as I say- tiny *prod* and request for some advice! Ta!
many bananas on offer for help given!:bannana::bannana:

Can someone please tell me if the following part number is correct for my car:

A2085450224 - Mercedes Cruise Control Stalk

Will be installed on 1998 W202 C230 Kompressor Manual, RHD

Ive just found this on ebay:

Mercedes Cruise Control Stalk 2085450224 A2085450224 on eBay (end time 24-Jan-10 14:11:13 GMT)

I read in the thread that there was a part that did not have the speed limiter function on it... I hope this is the right one, would be greatful if someone could confirm in which case I can have this baby installed next week.

I have a plastic cover thing where this should be installed on the casing of the steering wheel housing (its like those plastic cut out / push out things)...so I hope it doesnt even require anyone having to modify the casing to much, just break out the blank and install...which should mean a cheap install cost?!

Thank you

Khalid

Well, I've got a cruise stalk-
but- I've hunted all over but still can't work out if my car is a "Plug & Play" or I need a big box of bits and gubbins?
Can anyone advise me?...

Hi Im also looking to retrofit Cruise Control to my W202 - C220 have you got the job done yet, if not have you managed to source the parts?
Chris

I've been doing this mod for over a year now! I have the stalk fitted and the STAR mods completed, but I cant find anywhere to plug the CC stalk into?!

Mine is a manual W202 C230k facelift. Does anyone know where to plug the CC stalk into in the steering column area? Please?!

I have a 1993 W202 C220 Elegance. I have been reading all the forum comments about retrofitting cruise control to a car of the same model as mine, but i cant see that anyone here has actually succeeded or got the solution that im looking for. If im wrong please let me know.

hi, to start with i have read a post created by Graham230K w202 Cruise Control Retro Fit? and have read it through but i wanted to clear up a few things if possible.

firstly i would like to buy the cruise control stalk part number: A2085450424 and install it to my c180 (1998 facelift) w202 manual transmision esprit.

I wanted to know whether this part number is the same for the c180 as it is for grahams c230k.

I also need somewhere to take it to be coded and i dont know where to start. I'm from Grimsby which is thirty miles from Lincoln but i am willing to travel to get the right guy for the job.

I know Graham230k got his done by a guy who has done a couple, I would like to know where in the country he is based and whether he would be approachable to do another if he's not too far away.

Your help will be greatfully recieved as cruise control is all my baby benz is missing :(
