Car
Mercedes-Benz 190e, Mercedes-Benz E240 Estate
Ive got a w202 c220 elegance "1996" done 109,900 miles
car drives absolutely spot on !!! no faults what so ever........but yesterday i was driving it and suddenly the revs went straight to idle. so i pulled over and it was idling really reallt rough and very loud tappets came from the engine. so i drove it home and gettin there was a challenge, the car had hardly no power and it was really struggling. so i got it home and popped the bonnet open and the whole engine was shaking like crazy, i had no smoke from the exhaust and no overheating and no warning lights. so i turned the engine off and immediately turned it on and all was well !!!! no problems with idle or running. today i was driving it and it was driving lovely again until about 1pm today and it happened again, so i pulled over and turned it and on and it was fine again. what the hell is wrong with my car ?? lol

anybody know what could be wrong or how to solve it ???

thanks
mike

It has a missfire.

I would be looking at a possible coil pack issue first

apparently before i bought it the air flow mass was replaced because it conked out on one of the salesmen driving it. so thats been done, ive done some research and would an intermittent misfire or ignition misfire sound familiar ?? because of the starting and stopping of the engine which cures it.
its very frustrating because i feel i dont want to drive the car now because it might happen again :(

For me its a hot/cold issue. Something electrical is getting hot and then causing the car to run bad. The next day, from cold its ok again until it gets too hot.

No idea what the likely component might be but going on an issue I had with a bike once (which ran great up to 100 miles and then conked out). I'm sure other could point you in the right direction but it could be a coil pack breaking down.

well its booked in with the mechanic tomorrow, so ill suggest all this to him and see what comes of it, its probably something very simple.
thanks for the help though !!
