Hi,

any ideas why my rear foglights would not be working? Never worked since I've had it but me MOT's coming up so I thought I'd better get it sorted.

Any common problems? I've done the obvious with fuses and bulbs etc.

Look forward to your help.

best regards

Barny.

With the lights on, are you pulling the switch out all the way to 2nd position and dose the orange light come on?

Hi, yes I am pulling the switch all the way out, and the orange light is on. cheers Dan

What year is the car? When an outside bulb is gone there should be a bulb out warning light come on in the dash, you don’t mention that so I presume that isn’t happening.

You could turn on the fog light and inspect the bulb holder connections and wiggle it to see if there is a loose connection there, other than the fuse or bulb type, the only other thing is the light switch itself that might be faulty however that is fairly unlikely.

There is only one fog light on driver side the other side is blank.

Hi Dec, the car is a 1999. no bulb warning lights at all. and the holder seems to be ok?

cheers

Can you put a multimeter on it ?

Or a CIRCUIT TESTER if you haven’t a multimeter, put the needle end of the tester to the power supply wire at the bulb and attach the crocodile clip to a good earth like the battery earth strap, the bulb inside the tester will light up if there is power in the wire you are testing.

Just checked both sides, and neither light is blocked off so my car must 2 foglights on the back. No power at either bulb holder :(

No power, then it must be fuse or the switch, the switch, I no nothing about, as regards 2 fog lights I only have one and I believe you are suppose to only have one to avoid any confusion with break lights, I don’t know if that is the law or not but others may know more.

Edit Is there actually a bulb installed on the passanger side?

You will only have one rear fog wired on the drivers side, the passenger side will have everything there, but if you follow the live conductor track back to the plug you will see that there is no cable to it, so just concentrate on the drivers side rear light cluster.
Unplug the cluster and test for power there, direct on the plug.
I think there maybe a relay somewhere, do your front ones work?

Hi Guys,
Front fogs definatley work, and there are bulbs in both sides. Will check the connector and keep you updated.

cheers

The law is that, if you have two rear fog lights, only the offside, or drivers side, must work, that is to say, if the nearside one fails you can't be prosecuted.

Both rear fog lamps work on my W215 so I'm surprised if a W202 has two but one isn't wired up.
