Nope, it's not a new speaker/dance music combo..........

My drivers side door has started to bang loudly when opened/closed. Did a forum search and, as in another thread, the catch between the two hinges is to blame.

Symptons seem different though, i've greased the hell out of it and its no better, the gold/silver coloured section inside the door seems to be the culprit, it moves in three jerks and seems to be hitting the inside of the door.

Has anyone had this happen before? Any idea if it's a DIY job or not? If it is that part then its only £15 from the stealers - just dont know how much work's involved and the haynes is, as usual, useless

Thanks for any help guys, I can take some pictures if needed, but it's basically a blob of grease now :D

Yes it sounds like the 'check strap' needs replacing ... not sure if this is DIY or not.

Fairly sure I remember reading that if the check strap fails you can end up needing a new door skin (maybe this was specific to a particular model though).

I need to get this done on my R129.

I assume your talking about the door strap, havent changed one on a merc before but the peugeot 306 had 4 bolts from inside the door. should be same sorta procedure.

The bolt inside the door panels do come loose.(that hold the check strap on) Remove the door panel and have a look or bring it to me. (swap for oil?)

I might take you up on that, thanks :) have been trying to save and bring the whole lot in at once but might have to get the essentials done now and head back up with the exhaust later.

If you've got a slot free on Thursday (week today) for a few bits and bobs PM me with times and i'll head up.
