guys, i have a 99 c200 esprit auto, and iv testede a few times now and £20 petrol gives me only 70 miles (MAXIMUM 80). surely this cant be right?! please help as to how to trace the fault and what are common problems to cause such poor consumption? i know the car needs a service but what else could affect this? please help! i want to get this sorted asap!

Get it serviced first! - then see if it improves by much.

I only get around 110 on my C240 with £20 petrol - I have a heavy right foot though :)

engine is running fine, no shakes or beats missing. just a bit louder when cold but thats normal right? i have a spare MAF i could try for a while. any other possibilities?

What type of driving do you do and are you.? If it's all town work and you race around a bit then 17-20 mpg is all you're going to get.

im in the heart of the east end of london, but i do not race around at all (i think?) my mate has a pre facelift c200 (my old car, the love of my life!) and he gets 100 easy!

I agree with KillerHERTZ... Get a proper service (make sure they check all the filters) and see how she runs then? My father-in-law had the '95 C220 and had the same problem with poor consumption (8 - 9 km on a liter), had a proper service done and immediately got over 12 km...

(Sorry about the Km per liter... I live in South Africa so I'm unsure of the mpg)

The is pretty bad... i get 110-130 minimum from £20 (assuming you aren't paying a ludacris price for your petrol) :P.

MAF is where i'd start, possibly injectors. When i had the c200 with a very heavy right foot, i saw 100-120 out of £20

how do i know which? will this show on diagnostic?

Also check the state of your air filter.

Guesstimating how much you get from £20 is going tell you little.

Fill the tank to the brim, drive it a biggish number of miles (150, 200, 250) & refill to the brim. Do the maths & then you'll know your accurate fuel consumption.

Repeat a couple of times to average it out.

ill give it a shot, but i think its quite obviously that its thirstier than normal!
