For the past month the BAS/ASR light has very infrequently illuminated. Whenever it has, stopping and re-starting has always solved the problem. Then just recently I noticed the coolant level low, engine level low and diesel preglow lights flash on for a few seconds.

Finally, last night after driving home 80 miles in temperatures down to -4 (may be totally irrelevent) the following lights/ malfunctions ocurred:

BAS/ASR
Coolant level low (it isn't)
Engine oil level low (it isn't)
Deisel preglow
EPC
Brake fluid low (it isn't)
Speedometer needle fell to zero

I stopped the car, although it was operating perfectly normally, waited a few seconds and re-started. Every light went out and the speedo worked normally. Everything fine for the remaining 10 miles.

I have seen the threads about the BAS/ASR and the brake light switch but I was wondering about all the other apparently spurious malfunctions.

Car is a 1998 250TD elegance estate with 170000 miles.

Best to have the fault codes read on star, can start at about £40 if done by an indi, more if at an mb main dealer for the diagnosis/faults cleared, good luck hope it's nothing too serious:thumb:

Id say the instrument cluster and or its connectors are faulty/loose?

When you get symptoms like you're experiencing it's best to get the fault codes read as a first move. This can save fruitless guesswork, especially as modern cars are run by computers.
