Do you have access to H&R or Eibach lowering springs in Ireland ?

Or Bilstein

A Bilstein B12 matched springs/dampers set is a possibility.

Do you have a grinder? Most people looking this sort of drop just cut their springs. Wouldn't do it myself though!

A quick google only reveals a 40mm drop on lowering springs which wouldn't be enough.

A full suspension kit is what you need! (probably) I have seen a standard w202 decked, they must have chopped the springs or done away with them altogether! I'd like to lower mine a touch but -40mm no good as sport suspension already -30mm/-40mm?

i wouldnt go cutting springs in any car mate not alone a merc cuz it would be all over the place due to the softness of the springs..........i did try to find the H&R and Eibach but they have to be imported from britain, it comes out to be too expensive. Unless you know of a spot where i can get em in ireland?!
I dont know about the full suspension kit cuz im not looking for a massive drop you know just in the area of around 50-60mm and as you know google doesnt help in finding them.......

Not something I would be doing either, hopefully someone will be able to point you (and I) in the right direction! :D

Cutting springs increases the spring rate (google for "cutting springs rate increase" and pleny of hits showing you the maths).

Back to the original question - German ebay has plenty of 50-60mm drop springs for 202s.

You must understand that Mercedes uses a progessively wound spring which in operation acts much differently then a linear wound spring.

AMG used to regularly cut new springs to lower ride height in the 80's but to the detriment of high speed handling.
This was done solely due to the lack of aftermarket performance springs.

" Aftermarket suspension springs are generally described with either a linear or progressive spring rate. This indicates the pounds of force required to compress the spring one full inch of travel. For example, a 1,000 lb/in linear spring requires 1,000 pounds of force for every inch it is compressed. A progressive-rate spring such as a 750-850 lb/in spring has a variable rating to increase rate as the suspension cycles the spring. Typically, the progressive spring acts in its lower rate range when it is close to the car's static ride height, and increases in stiffness as the suspension is compressed. Progressive rate springs are popular in aftermarket suspension tuning to give a firm but comfortable ride while cruising, with the higher rate coming into play when the car is driven harder to reduce body roll in cornering. Linear rate springs are commonly used in racing applications, either with coilovers or in the stock location, because it is easier to tune and predict their performance than with a variable-rate spring. "

Also keep in mind the condition of the springs to be cut.

" Cutting full or partial coils from a spring will increase the rate, but a spring that has sagged or lost height with age will only change the static load borne by that coil, not its rate."

I've got a w202 1994 C180 Sport, can anyone tell where can I get a C43 bodykit, thanks.

Keep an eye out for cars being broken on ebay. Horgantrevor (a fellow member based in Ireland) had one for sale a while back, put this in the classified wanted section and see if he makes contact.

Failing this, and if you have deep pockets you could fork out close to 3 grand and buy it from the stealer.

Hope this helps.

Hi

50mm drop is probably the limit that your oem Shocks can cope with, if you go lower on the OEM shocks, your oem shocks will struggle.

I use a Dutch spring supplier "Cobra suspension" these guys are very good, they spend a fair bit of money in research and testing and are very good at supplying spring data such as spring rate, spring free lengths etc. not many suppliers do that. In terms of spring quality, they match H&R and Eiback (imo)...and are slightly cheaper compared to H&R as you're not paying for the brand name.

I sent a msg to my contact there to see if they have an agent in Ireland and for some spring date info.

40mm lowering springs are TUV approved, 50mm lowering are not TUV approved.

their lowering springs are usually 8-10% stiffer which is pretty much the normal for aftermarket lowering springs.

I actaully used Cobra suspension set up on my 2.3-16 and it works very well. Now i use cobra set up at the rear and use my own upgraded springs at the front with shorter stroke adjustable shocks.

ok! just received an email from my contact there..they have an agent in Ireland https://www.icetronix.com/index.aspx

I'll see if I can get some data on the springs

here's a pic of my rear set up

hope this helps
