Hi all, I've had an MOT advisory on both top ball joints worn.

The problem I've got is that the local factors don't list top joints.

Do I have to replace the whole top suspension arm?
:wallbash:

It would appear from this that its all one assembly referred to as the transverse control arm item 59 or similar depending on your specific model here.Êàòàëîã
If its any consolation its quite a common MOT failure point on these models.

Thanks for the prompt reply, you've just confirmed what I thought.

Any non-obvious problems when it comes to replacing the arms, other than use a large hammer!

You might need a ball joint splitter to get the old one off but apart from that and limited access nothing much. Lemforder is a good quality OEM manufacturer used by MB if you want to go the non dealer route.

Ive never used a ball joint splitter ever, remove the balljoint nut and where the tapered bit goes through the main upright hit the main upright right next to where the tapered bit goes through smartly several times with a hammer and it will pop out, i use this method on cars and trucks always works.
Pics worth a thousand words:D
