W202: why are there 2 pre-drilled holes in each corner inside the boot? (pic inside)

This is in a '99 W202's boot area. As you can see in the
picture below, there are two holes in the upper right hand
corner. There are three more pairs like them in the other
three corners inside the boot. They form a rectangular
shape.

Are them for the tie-down hooks of the cargo net? That's
what I asked the MB parts dept. However, they searched
in their database for my W202, but the hooks have just
a single bolt.(much larger than those holes would
accomondate) Or perhaps they came up with the wrong
part#s.... does anyone know the correct part#s for the
hooks with two smaller bolts/screws, and possibly the
cargo net that goes with it?

Any ideas? :) Thanks! :)

You should have a load hook/eye/anchor whatever you call it there.

Here's mine:

Also, unless you can source the MB cargo net very cheaply, I found you can adapt a £7 halfords roof rack net with quite pleasing results.

Thanks for your reply! :)

I noticed a couple of things different in my vehicle.
Hope you don't mind, but I used your picture to
show you what I mean.

The two 2-hole locations are different in my vehicle.
(as indicated by the red arrows in the picture below)

The other thing is that I do not have fold-down rear
seats... not sure if that makes any difference in the
tie-down hook locations...

No worries about the pic. Hmm. Not sure. I had a w202 without folding seats before and I can't remember the load hooks being that different.

Bobcat,

I've just checked mine and it's the same as yours.

I've just checked with another MB dealer's part dept. The
result is the same as the first dealer. According to the
parts database, two different types of hooks are used.
The two hooks closer to the boot opening have two screw
holes in them.(no problem here) However, the other
hooks closer to the rear seats each only have one hole for
a single bolt. (but our cars have two smaller pre-drilled
holes)

The parts guy suggested that I just get four hooks with the
2-hole design and see what happens... The cargo net for
the W202 is also listed... but pricey...(almost 35)
