Has anyone managed to repair a regulator by replacing the snapped/mangled wire cable? Both of my rear ones have gone and replacements seem quite costly. I could just wedge them up and forget about them but I like things to work properly.

Regulator's with the motor are cheap enough, bought one recently for £15 from a breaker, would not consider repairing a snapped cable, all you need to fit them is a drill and rivet gun, beyond me why they are not bolted in.

I have them off already but the ones I have found on ebay range from £20 to £60. I know, I'm a bit of a skinflint, but a length of wire is much cheaper:D

some times you can buy wires but its alot of agro to change them. i did one on a mazda mx5 at work once (NEVER AGAIN)

ummm,if you manage to do it,please post up a how to,good luck if you do,and good hunting if you don't:thumb:

If the regulator is similar to the ones on my W210, its the white plastic or nylon? bits that fracture and the wire just becomes a bit tangled, not does not break. I saw parts available to repair my regulator on a well known internet auction site, which consisted of the offending plastic fittings on on the cable ends!!

No its definitely the wire that has snapped. After consideration I think it will be less stressful to get a replacement regulator. I did think about experimenting with some high breaking strain fishing line but, I fear it would most likely stretch.

i repaired a cable window regulator in a Mondeo i had many years ago. Worked well but the cable was shorter so the window didnt wind out as far as it used to.

personally, i'd just get a 2nd hand regulator. Plenty on ebay
