How many times should a 2.7 CDi turn over before it fires up properly?
Ours seems to take 3-4 cranks before catching - is this normal.

If it was a petrol car I'd say new spark plugs would be in order but don't know much about Diesals.

Any ideas or is 3-4 times normal? Once running it's absolutly fine and has all the power you'd expect.

Thanks
Ed

I sus pect it will either be air in the fuel system or one of the injectors is leaking off too much.

A leak off check should be done first then onto a Star to see if any fault codes. Is there and diesel fuel seepage?

I can't see any fuel sepage anywhere. If it gets any worse I'll take it to our local indi who is a friend, but just wondering how many cranks a normal CDi engine takes to fire up

Two really.

My money is on a leaking off injector.

Thanks, I'll report back if I get to the bottom of it incase it helps sombody else. I owe you a beer for your advice today.

Although drinking and driving is not good so I'll just have to drink the cold one in front of me instead.

Actually come to think of it, would a leaking injector cause a momentary rev without the accelerator being pressed when driving along. I was doing around 40mph the other day, foot not moving and it just quickly blipped with an extra 500rpm and then proceeded as normal, it's done it a few times...?

I doubt it. Thats a new one on me.

BTW I like Stella.

Ed, Take the engine covers off - both of them.
A leaking injector is usually easy to spot.
Failing that check all fuel pipes for damage or chaffing against the engine cover. If you have air in the system you will be able to see some bubbles in the clear plastic pipes.
Get someone to turn the engine over while you look at the clear pipes at the front of the engine that enter the high pressure pump.
Garage replaced one of my injectors for poor starting and it did not cure the issue. Was a damaged pipe.

I think olly means an internal leak on the return side of the injectors not an external leak.

Injector leaks to much so unable to get full rail pressure hence crap starting.

Bloke at work had same on his 330d the fact he had petrol in the tank didnt help!
