When I go to start it after it has been left overnight it will start straight away then instantly stall, then when I go to restart it will need to crank for a good 10 seconds or so before it will start, after it has got going the first time it's fine for the rest of the day, anyone have any ideas?.

Usually caused by the under-bonnet fuel pipe '0 rings' (from the fuel filter to the fuel pumps) allowing air to enter the system and needing replacement, you can get them from MB @ £1 each, the pipes can become brittle over time and break as you remove them whilst fitting the 0 rings. If you need to renew the pipes they come complete with 0 rings and cost about £70 for all three.

2nd that ^^^^^

Exactly same symptoms as mine gave. Also worth changing fuel filter.

Not familiar with MB diesels as such, but from past experience with diesels this could also be a glow plug issue?

Have you had the codes read, to see if there are any stored fault codes?

I thought it could be glowplugs at first but then if it was the car would't fire up straight away and stall, after looking through the service history I saw it has had 4 glowplugs at the last service about 5000 miles ago so an issue with the fuel pipes sounds more likely to me, glad to know it's a simple fix though, thanks for the help guys.
