Got a bit of a whine from the front end of my C350 (2006). The noise has been pretty consistent since I noticed it and its not getting any worse. The car is a very low mileage example (genuine 43500 miles from new) so I'm certain the ancillary belt is in need of a change.
I had a listen at the pulleys and they sound good, and the steering feels as I remember from driving these new, but I'm thinking the power steering pump is on the way out and is this source of the whine/drone. It doesn't change between lock to lock at low speed and sort of becomes inaudiable above 2500 rpm. Doesn't change the sound when the AC is on either, and that all works as it should.
Are the steering pumps a known weak link on these cars?
