I have fitted a new steering wheel hub/boss and just waiting for my new steering wheel to turn up. Removed the slip ring but now having a mild panic attack that I actually need the slip ring!

I'm no expert but I believe the slip ring is also the angle sensor for the steering wheel. This tells the rest of the sysyems that need to know what angle your wheels and steering wheel are relative to the vehicle so from a layman's perspective - Yeah, I'd say you need it (to be fair, if it wasn't needed then it wouldn't be there).

As above, it will disable EPS and ABS, and probably also BAS.

It will also flag-up SRS fault (because the airbag connector goes through it), but if it's a track car then you probably don't care about that either.
