My 02 C270CDi is playing up again, last year I had all sorts of random electrical issues, really random lights coming on, windows not working & door locks chattering all caused by a faulty drivers side(right) door control module, thanks to all the members that helped point me in the right direction.
Now the radio won't turn on, The glovebox mounted CD changer still has power to it, I've had the radio out to check the fuse (OK) the only live feed seemed to be low at 7 volts (engine not running). The concern comes in that at the same time as the radion stopping the passenger door will not unlock electronically (opens off the internal handle) it will however lock with the remote. Could there be a connection between the door control module reducing power to the radio as i beleive the door speaker wires pass through the module.
I know this sounds a bit clutching at straws but after my last DCM experience I will believe anything.

Update

Nearly forgot - the phone stopped working at the same.

Radio units have 2 live feeds , thats one permanent for the memory and the other is normally key 1 live.

Can you check the voltage on the fuse in the head unit

A 2002 car may actually only have permanent live, CAN-bus and fibre wake-up bringing it on.

When you say "there was only one live wire", I assume you measured all without knowing which one should have power. Better to find the connector assignment and check the power wire (or wires if it has two). You may have measured the CAN bus or something "irrelevant".

For sure you should have found at least one live wire.

It could also be an issue with the fibre loop. But if the radio does not have power, then you cannot get audio for the phone or the CDC. Not sure if the phone should have any functionality when the fibre loop fails, I assume the head unit would switch itself off.

Good call on checking voltage at fuse, I will try that tonight. I worked along all connectors one by one & only one wire had any (reduced) voltage, should have noted the colour,I think it was brown with red tracer.
I will have another look & take a bit more detail next time.
Are these radios prone to failing?

Where are you located? I have a spare W203 Audio 10 lying around so perhaps we could plug that in to eliminate the radio from the equation.

Update

Thanks for the offer to try another unit, but I will have another 'delve in the dash' at the weekend, I was a bit short on time last week so didn't really get enough done, but at least I know how to tear the dash apart.

update

Got good power to fuse post so it looks like the radio unit is crook.
So I'm now on the lookout for a Becker audio10 with a CD drive, have seen a few on ebay.
Power appears to be delivered by 1 wire only ( blue/red tracer) earth=brown.
I think I missed the fact that the little red indicator still blinks on the facia below the screen. this should have told me that some power was reaching the unit, or is this fed seperately ?

Getting there...

This radio (likely a BE6021 or BE4410 or similar; check the label on the right-hand side of the unit) only needs a permanent 12V as the lights and ignition are controlled by the CANBUS. If there is no CANBUS the unit will still turn on but only for a short while then display PROD.

Perhaps the car is telling you it would like a COMAND unit?

Tell me more, I have heard 'COMAND' mentioned before but not really sure what it is ?

Is this a direct plug in, or will I need other bits'n'bobs.will all the steering wheel controls function as intended & is it compatible with the ancient nokia brickphone (Nokia 6210 I think)

You will need the correct COMAND unit for you car.
A wiring loom adaptor and a GPS antenna.

Have a look at this site http://www.mercupgrades.com/ ; it will list all of the parts you would need and useful tips on sourcing them.

Well worth doing IMO.

I see a mod coming on :D, factory navigation system...

It's an easy fit and it's completely compatabile with the original Mercedes fitment of Nokia phone kit. Well worth having and a nice update.

Another navigation option is Audio 30 APS which doesn't look much different from Audio 10 that you have, it's a single DIN unit (as opoosed to double DIN for COMAND).

I think it might be time to move the car on, there seems to be a few electrical issues cropping up.
So I have just bought another audio 10 with the CD drive off ebay so we will see if that fixes the problem.
Not sure what to go for next, do not really need an estate again so quite fancy a CLK rag top.
My work travel needs have radically changed & now have a very short commute (2mile round trip) so fancy a petrol engine, still want an auto,
What is the best engine/auto combo?

well i have a c220 cdi doing the same thing... we have been having problems with the locks opening themselves... they just go mad..lock/unlock until the battery dies....after swapping all the door control units, rear sam, door motors, and anything on the locking circuit including the dash switch i have had to admit defeat and i have asked an alarm fitter to fit an external remote controlled unit to operate the central locking as we are getting nowhere with trying to fix it.

curiously the audio 10 isnt working either, red light is on but the unit wont turn on.

this used to work though, even with the locking fault.

Amazing...this is what I love about this site.

My 2003 C180K has an intermittent fault with the doors unlocking too. And the driver's side window sometimes will not close. A friend of mine had similar door lock issues with a 2001 W203, plus the mirrors would not fold. He sold the car on before he had these fixed.

My car is still covered under Service Plus so I will get it booked in though I am expecting the dealer to tell me that he has never seen this sort of thing before (!) and it will take 3 visits to get it properly sorted (based on previous experiences).

well we have tried absolutely everything with this car.. and i mean everything (apart from replace the wiring loom)

Anyway i have just fixed the radio by disconnecting its 10A fuse and putting it back in!!!

congrats on solving your radio isuue,I hope a replacement unit does the trick for mine, if so it will be a nice upgrade.
The passenger door lock on mine isn't going through a lock/unlock cycle,
If the car is locked 3 doors unlock remotely, passenger door remains locked until the inner handle is pulled then opens as normal. Exiting the car ALL doors lock off the remote.
It is just that initial push on the lock opener that is missing.
