W203 Auto Dim mirror upgrade / swap help please

Hi all,

I bought an auto dimming mirror for my 2007 W203, thought it would be a nice upgrade...

However, a couple of things are puzzling me whilst trying to swap to the new one !

In the attached pictures you can see the connector in the car (oblong/rectangle) and the connector on the "new" auto dimm rearview mirror - they don't match

So my first question is does anyone know how to mate these 2 together please ?

In the 3rd picture you see the 2 mirrors side by side ( old/existing mirror on left, new auto dim on right )- my question is, if my old mirror was not an auto dim (and it wasn't, it has the flipper underneath) then what is the cable for ? and also, what are the vents for on top of the mirror please ?

i thought since facelift all mirrors were auto dim, maybe previous owner changed it, sorry cnt help about the connectors but i think some of them are year specific

nope, I have owned it from new so I know it's not been changed before thanks for trying though

Hmmm, I've had a thought.....

I have the Phone Prep in my car, could the exisitng cabling in the mirror and the vented area on the top be the microphone for the phone prep ? In which case I can't really swap the mirrors over !

I'll go and try making a call now....

right, been back out to the car and yes the existing wires and vent were the mic for the car kit.... Guess I won't be fitting the auto dim mirror

Just got your message- you have already worked out problem in the thread- sorry.
If you are really keen & good at DIY, there is no reason why you couldn't knock the two into one i.e. put in the dimming mirror into your existing phone prep mirror, but I am afraid I do not know the ins & outs of this kind of mod. The forum might be able to help ...

I recognize the mirror on the right, but the one on the left looks like it is from a SL, as it is much wider and these were fully electric. If it is a fully electric auto dimming mirror, you would need to retro fit the SL wire harness and mirror adjustment switch as well.

What I have found on these mirrors is that although many of them look the same on the outside, the plugs and/or number of wires in the plug differ depending upon the year of the vehicle and whether or not you have auto dimming side mirrors as well. Some cars only have auto dimming drivers door mirror, others have auto dimming on both the driver and passenger door.

With that said, I have taken the plugs apart and removed unecessary wires and/or changed the plugs altogether to get them to fit different models. The pink wires are for auto dimming of the door mirror, so you either have none, one or two.

The mirror on the left looks to be from a 211 E . The plug on the mirror would plug into the light ( upper control panel )

I've got telephone prewire and dimming and its the same mirror as the one on the right
