W203:BAS and ESP Warnings

Driving home this evening the instrument suddenly started flashing "BAS and ESP Visit workshop" messages. I was neither cornering nor braking at the time and had been driving sedately over the New Forest at 40mph.

I tested the ABS and it still worked but as I was coming slowly down the drive (about 150m long so takes a few seconds) the warnings went away. The instrument cluster read "2 faults" then it cleared and said "no malfunction"

Any clues?

Possibly a sticky brake light switch.

I will go out in in later and see if the problem recurs. Is a brake light switch playing up a common cause of these problems? Although the faults have cleared will there be a record stored in the car that my indie can check out?
