Help please.
I have a 2003 C class 180 which has covered 50,000 miles. The problem is that I get a noise that sounds like a spring vibration from the boot area when I go over rough surfaces. There are no major bangs and "boings" when I go over potholes or speed ramps. I suspect that the boot assister springs are vibrating. Anyone else had this problem?

Worn bushes or worn sway bar bushes.

Thanks for the tip, I'll get them checked out although the noise doesn't seem "heavy" enough for a suspension fault.

Could be the boot lid springs - try wrapping them in a couple of old rags/hand towels to see if that stops it (then look for a more permenant solution - one of mine has a small rag wrapped outside to stop it rattling)

Thanks,
That's well worth a try and won't cost a fortune

The lid springs already have sponge in the coils.

I had a similar noise from the back of my C200, heard it when the radio was up load as well on the base notes! It turned out to be the rear licence plate vibrating on its bracket!

Correct - but when the boot is closed and the sprin full stretched this only covers a fraction of the length (and doesn't stop the outside of the spring rattling against stuff).

Road springs are snapped?
