Hi
This is my first post, I've had a look through the search facility but can't seem t find the answer so thought I'd post this

Would anyone happen to know the part number for the boot springs on a W203? Mine unlatches but doesn't open fully. I don't have a boot spoiler and if I take the triangle off it works fine, the current springs are on their maximum setting so I think I need to replace them.

Thanks in advance :-)

Jules

I've just read a response to an earlier thread on this suggesting tie-wrapping a couple of the coils together, so I may give that a quick try this afternoon :-)

Please can you copy this earlier thread - or post a picture of what you did? I have the same issue with my W207 Cabriolet.

I'm not sure the cabriolet would have the same arrangement... But if it does it really is as simple as this:

Uncover the springs (hidden behind the carpet on the left and right side of the boot area.

Get a heavy duty tie-wrap (Halfords sell them if all else fails). Insert one end through the coils of the spring (about 2-3 coils from the end) - slide the end of the tiewrap out of the end of the spring so that when closed it compresses 2-3 coils together thereby shortening the spring.

Test the opening force at this point as you may find (like I did) that you only need to do one spring.

That's it - job done...
