Think this has been discussed but I couldn’t find too many pics so I’m putting a few together of my efforts. I think it’s quite easy and you don’t need a mile long cable if you hardwire (for a forward facing dashcam mounted on the windscreen) this way as the fuse box in the engine compartment and fuse box on the end of the driver’s side of the dashboard (on RHD car) are close by. The trickiest part for me was pulling the positive and negative cables of the hardwire kit through the driver’s side fuse box into the engine compartment fuse box. The foam insert at the back of the fuse box (in the engine bay) comes out quite easily and with the cover off the driver’s side fuse box and door open you should clearly see the opening you are aiming for from the bonnet side. Remember you can open the bonnet up all the way so it’s vertical by pressing the button in on the support arm then guiding it back towards the windscreen until the button clicks in again more to let more light into the area and perhaps slightly better access. I used the fuse tap in the kit I got on fuse 47 which is just for the cigar lighter and is ignition switched. Any pointers / things I can improve on this job welcome. Thanks.
