w203 c180k sport edition
I have a 2005 c180k sport edition the other day i jumped into my car and started it up when i put the car into drive i can hear a really annoying vibrating sound when i put the car into neutral or park the noise goes away, i read up on the noise and it's common for the handbrake cable retaining clip to break which leads to the handbrake cable rubbing on the prop. has anyone experienced this and is it a easy fix can i get under the car and do it or is it a job for a garage using their ramp? does anyone have a part number for the clip that breaks?

any help will be appreciated

The hand brake clip is a common problem.

Can be heard when moving & gets worse on right turns.

It's easier to do on a ramp in workshop.
Clip costs around £2 from dealer, a good Indy will also keep instock

do you know what the clip is called or what the part number is?

It's a blue clip that holds the hand brake cable to the body, it had a few but only usually 1 breaks.
Not sure on part no
Any body in a merc parts department should know what you are asking for

Your post reads like the car is making the noise at stand-still, in which case it won't be anything rubbing on the prop as it won't be turning.

when the cars in drive with my foot on the brake surely the propshaft still turns??

No, the prop shaft only turns when the car is moving.

Where does it sound like the vibration is coming from?

hmm might be something else then i always thought that once the cars in drive the prop starts turning, i just hope it's nothing costly

ill try and get a video of the noise later today

Loose Exhaust heat shield ?

In drive the engine will move very slightly on the mounts , maybe just enough to make contact .

UPDATE: i checked the car over today the serpentine belt runs nice and smooth at idle but once the car is in drive the belt near the supercharger pulley starts vibrating hence the noise, i think the idler pulley is at fault is this a easy fix? does anyone have a part no for the pulley i want to try and fix this myself.

It could be the tensioner that is at fault.

If it is it will need the supercharger to be removed to access the retaining bolts.

Take the belt off. Any seized pulleys?

Any pointers on how to get the belt off mate?

fixed the problem yesterday it was the freewheel alternator pulley that was seized, had to take off the alternator to get the pulley off which wasn't too bad. if anyone needs a new pulley i suggest you purchase one from euro car parts as they supply a genuine ina part for £31 mercedes qouted me £95 this is also the best time to renew the v belt.
