IF you dont have phone pre-wire then you will need to add it with a kit or go for a non MB solution. Ipod is easy. All you need is the MB kit.

Lift up the top box of your centre console - do you have a plug sitting there, which is for a phone cradle. If not, you don't have pre-wire.

As to ipod kit, PM Alfie from Comand as they do professional installation, or have the kit to DIY.

I`m new to this forum. Wanted to ask about iPOD connection. Is it worth it? Mine`s a C180(55 reg) without command unit and was thinking of getting iPOD as cd`s are getting scratched all the time. How`s the sound on iPOD? Any good ? Can i use my wheel commands for iPOD? Heard about some guys in Woking, ( command line ) . Are they good ? Or shall i get command unit with iPOD connection?
How`s the satnav? Fast loading maps?Any failures ? Europe maps any good ? I`d love to have one but don`t know what to do...what do you advise me?
As i don`t have phone pre-wire what shall i do about wiring? Is it expensive ? Thanks

I had Audio 20 and hooked up the IPOD kit which works perfectly fine..but later went for the Comand Unit which works nice..
My advice is if you want to change to Comand and have IPOD..get Alfie from comand.co.uk to do this at one go..cheaper and less times having to dissassemble the centre console..
Alfie does a First Class Service..you wont get anyone doing a clean, professional job and he will hook up to the Star Diagnostics and get everything switched on including some extras as well..you get real value for money..If you want the Birds Eye Maple Trim also, get that done at the same time..I did it the hard way..having IPOD kit first..then Birds Eye Maple..then Comand..would have saved some money doing it all at once..

Dont listen to MB if they say cannot be done and software not compatable nonsence..We have all done this here at the forum and all of us will given Alfie the full thumbs up..

I got the thermotronic panel fitted also after IPOD,Comand,BEM ..thought i would learn first time around..but i research a lot on prices and so on..

I got my Thermotronic via MB with 15% discount on parts as my car is 4yrs old now..part no A203 830 1985 ..it is a nice mod and compliments the comand unit perfectly..

Do your homework..get prices from MB parts and also from nick specialist on this forum and alfie..someparts you can get yourself and others will be cheaper via alfie..for me I got the BEM,thermotronic, IPOD kit myself..but for comand get alfie to source this as you wont get it anywhere at better price..(dont trust ebay too much on this unit)..
Alfie will quote you a good price as for the comand fit, everything on centre console comes off..so matter of swapping one for the other..but you need the ALFIE expertice for normalising the thermotronic and getting the Comand in line correctly..IPOD will be simple as well as all plugs to the back of comand unit..

I did not go for the phone prewiring due to cost and i was not too fussed on it..but you might like it..so go via the bluetooth route, alfie can advice and also for the linguatronics(not cheap)..
Once you know what you want doing with all the pricing sorted, then go ahead and do a one fit process..

Take photos and post it to the forum on the fit..you will know what i mean along with other forum memberswhen we say Alfie does First Class Service..

As a member of the "ALFIE fanclub", i am hoping on a good discount on my next mod with him..(hint to Alfie !!)

I have an '06 180k 203 - with Audio 20 - I did consider upgrading to Command and Ipod dock - but have since decided that Satnav is a bit pointless for me, as I can still read a map and have a pda with a satnav function if I'm desperate! I would still like the Ipod dock facility though - just have to save up some cash for it!

At the moment, I use the Aux input for my ipod - works just fine (I use shuffle play on mine, so I don't have to keep picking it up to select music). Only issue is that there is nowhere to stash the ipod safely (stuff it into the drink / cash drawer behind the gear knob) - so a dock would be better

Having Comand is more than just Satnav..it is all in one unit..reason for the name..It is no TOMTOM but provides the convenience and bigger screen of a TomTom..IPOD works from the steering..IPOD plugs into the glove box..never have to see it ..it charges itself from the car..I still carry my old tomtom in the centre storage as backup..but so far have not resorted to it.. but just a relief.. fedup having to stick it on the windscreen,take it off everytime i am parked..

But once you have comand, you will wonder how you managed audio 20 all that time..it is a good unit..

You can have an ipod interface fitted really quite easily. Comand is nice to have but you dont have to have it for ipod in a W203 (unlike the W211).

I have not got them yet..still getting info regarding this fit..It apparently maynot be a simple fit due to wiring reasons..So once i have numbers, i will decide..but agree with you, it is a good mod to have..

Called a guy in Aachen just now and he said they`re about 120 euros there( 4pcs ). Fitting 80 euros so it`s far cheaper than Uk.

WOT no phone pre-wire or linguatronic they are just about the greatest additions to comand. Only joking. They are good though don't know how i could be without them now.
