Hi my friend is looking to buy a c270 cdi avantgarde spec his budget is upto £3k and mileage upto 145k

Auto and saloon, what sort of things should he look out for? any common issues? and anyone on here selling one?

Any help much apreciated:thumb:

Rust....

Engines are strong and should go many 100k miles if properly maintained.

Pre face lift (<2004) suffer fragile electrics and front suspension. Try to get a face lifted example, better interiors.

He could buy mine if he wants:thumb:

Common issues are:

Rust

Electrical problems, fan, wiper switch, sams, bouncy door locks, radios just stop working

Engine issues, injectors, egr, flaps, oil leaks, weak fuel pump which leads to

Fuel problems, half tanks syndrome, air in lines - illigitimate child to start

Rust

Rust

Great cars to drive though, if you can find the one in a million that's not got at least one of the above issues, quick and good on diesel, usually high spec too

Mines for sale on here if it's any interest, link > http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/clas...i-avantgarde-se-diesel-sport-auto-silver.html

They seem to suffer from failed thermostats. Make sure it reaches between 80º & 90º fairly quickly (10 - 15 mins normal driving) and stays steady. (New stats are about £40 from Mercedes).

Also, spare / replacement keys are approx £227 as you are probably aware, so if only one with possible purchase, he may be able to use it to barter on price.

Mine has had 4 out of 5 injectors replaced due to leaking seals . Need to do thermostat , block heater and probably swirl flaps next year .

Have replaced the driver's door lock due to bouncing as a result of broken internal spring .

Recently changed MAF

Tailgate wiper seized

Had to change wheels after damaging one due to sheared locking bolt - cheapest option was a set of used wheels from Gumtree ( didn't like the old ones anyway )

Haven't had any rust issues beyond one tiny scab on the tailgate and one rust chip in one wheelarch

Remote buttons on one key acting up

Car generally goes OK , but slow compared to my 500 .

Front seats OK , nice with heaters , but cramped in the back - ok there for kids .

I much prefer pre facelift interior , don't like garish steering wheels on later models , although later instrument cluster looks nicer . Radio is basic and PITA to change due to amount of dismantling required and non standard aperture .

Estate boot surprisingly small compared to 124 estates I had before .

Car tows well enough .

Would I buy another ? NO , may well go back to S124 at some point .

My back wiper also inoperative along with the washer. Switch on the dash not controlling any actions to the rear.

I'm guessing its a break in the wiring somewhere.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.
Edit.

Agree on boot size, shopping trolley only.

The wiring loom where it exits the body and enters the tailgate is a distinct possibility.
